The program seeks to cultivate independent, self-disciplined, and motivated young men who embody the values of an Ignatian education. By engaging in problem-solving tasks, personal challenges, and meaningful interactions with adults, students are encouraged to develop maturity, resilience, and the qualities of an Ignatian graduate.
The Year 9 Challenge is guided by four core objectives:
Bush Week is an outdoor education program set in the Glenworth Valley region, providing students with a wilderness expedition that incorporates hiking, canoeing, and mountain biking. Students camp in provided tents each night and prepare meals on small camp stoves, developing practical skills, self-reliance, and resilience.
During the City Experience, students participate in a range of cross-curricular activities across Sydney. Beyond gaining practical exposure to city life, they learn to navigate public transport independently, fostering self-confidence, adaptability, and organisation skills.
In partnership with TAFE Ryde Campus, students undertake a Hospitality Experience, learning practical skills such as mocktail preparation, barista techniques, and serving meals. This experience cultivates professionalism, teamwork, and an appreciation for service.
The Year 9 Challenge offers a unique combination of adventure, learning, and personal growth, encouraging students to embrace new experiences, build meaningful relationships, and develop the skills and confidence to thrive both within and beyond the College.
