Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview is comprised of 16 Houses, each with around 85 students from Years 7 to 12.

Students remain in the same House for the duration of their time at the College, allowing them to build lasting connections and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging within their House community.

The role of the Head of House

Heads of House bear primary responsibility for the holistic care of each student, guiding them in a manner that reflects the central aim of Jesuit education: the formation of young men who are intellectually competent, spiritually grounded, compassionate, and committed to using their gifts in the service of others.

Each morning, students check in with their Head of House, fostering rapport and confidence through these daily interactions. At least once per term, Heads of House meet individually with each student, seeking to understand their unique gifts and talents, encourage their development, and guide them in using these gifts in service to others, all within a community of faith and their journey towards God.

Heads of House collaborate closely with College staff in the spirit of Ignatian formation, placing the wellbeing of each student at the highest priority. They work in partnership with Mentors, meeting regularly to discuss student progress and to support the development of meaningful Mentor Group activities.

Mentor Groups

Within each House, students belong to a Mentor Group, where small, informal gatherings of 15 minutes, four times a week, provide opportunities to build relationships, cultivate leadership, and foster personal growth. Mentors meet individually with each student at least once per semester, and both Heads of House and Mentors remain accessible for guidance regarding academic progress, subject choices, co-curricular involvement, and spiritual development.

House Meetings

House Meetings are important occasions for student formation, bringing the entire House together three to four times each term.

These gatherings offer opportunities for shared activities, discussion, and reflection, strengthening House spirit and fostering a sense of belonging and community.
