Saint Ignatius

Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview is a Catholic school shaped by the Jesuit tradition, inspired by the life and vision of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.

Ignatius was a 16th century soldier who, after a profound spiritual conversion, dedicated his life to helping others seek God, make wise choices and serve generously. His insights gave rise to the Society of Jesus and to a way of educating that forms young people in mind, heart and spirit. This tradition guides how we teach, accompany and support students at Riverview.

Ignatian spirituality sits at the centre of our identity. It encourages us to find God in all things, to reflect on our experiences and to grow through discernment. Staff are invited to understand this spirituality and the promise of growth it offers so that they can nurture it in the students entrusted to their care. In this way, the values that shaped Ignatius become part of the daily life of the College.

Students are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God, engage thoughtfully with faith and develop a generous outlook toward others. We promote openness to life’s questions, steady personal growth and a growing awareness of the world and its needs."

Formation is intentional and wide-ranging. Each year group participates in programs that include retreats, Ignatian service experiences, leadership development and the liturgical life of the College. These elements work together to support the intellectual, spiritual and emotional development of every student, echoing Ignatius’ belief in forming the whole person.

Our hope is that each young man becomes an informed and compassionate witness to the values of Jesus Christ. By learning from the example of Saint Ignatius and recognising God’s presence in their own lives, students are encouraged to respond with integrity, courage and a desire to serve.
