The Australian Province of the Society of Jesus (Province) is committed to creating and maintaining environments in all its ministries that are safe, positive, enriching and supportive and which promote the fullness of life (i.e. religious, educational, social, physical, professional and emotional development).

Cura personalis or the care for the entire person is a value central to our Ignatian tradition. To that end, all within the Province are committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is safe, supportive, caring and nurturing for all children and young people. We commit ourselves to safeguarding children and young people from all abuse and neglect.

The purpose of the College policies and procedures is to provide a framework which ensures that the safety, individual care (cura personalis) and wellbeing of each person is paramount.

Child safety incidents or concerns can take many forms including disclosures, allegations, suspicions, concerns or reports of threatening actions, assault, abuse or other harm to a student at the College. It is critical that the broader College community tells us about all child safety concerns or incidents that occur or otherwise involve the College. This enables the College to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and to comply with its legislative reporting obligations. Anyone, including students, can make a child safety related complaint or report to the College in person, in writing or over the phone.

The Australian Province of the Society of Jesus (Province) and Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview are committed to embedding a culture where the safety, wellbeing, and participation of all children, young people and people at risk under our care is paramount. The College is committed to providing an effective procedure for handling complaints based on the principles of procedural fairness and natural justice—supported by the Executive of the College. All members of the College community are strongly encouraged to maintain respectful and collaborative working relationships and quickly address any misunderstandings should they arise. However, a person may feel aggrieved in the course of their engagement with the College or feel that a situation cannot be addressed quickly and believe that the situation is serious enough to warrant formal intervention to remedy the issue. Complaints will be dealt with in a fair, transparent and consistent manner.
