Learning the abilities to problem-solve by fostering collaboration, and perseverance, this program is an exciting and creative choice. It’s where confidence shines as boys not only master their individual performance and theatrical skills but also learn to thrive in diverse team settings. Each rehearsal, performance, and challenge build a stronger sense of focus and determination, preparing them to excel both on stage and in life. Co-curricular Drama is open to all students. Selecting Drama as a subject is not a pre-requisite.
Students seeking to develop their skills further may also undertake optional private drama tuition, which is scheduled alongside the academic timetable.
Each year, the program showcases a thrilling lineup of productions, offering something for every student. From the dramatic celebration of the Year 12 Play to the energy and creativity of the Senior and Intermediate Plays, there's a stage for all to make their mark. The Junior Play brings emerging talent to the forefront, while the highly anticipated Dance Performance unites students from all year groups in a dynamic celebration of movement and expression. With multiple opportunities to perform, every student has the chance to be a part of something extraordinary.
Students interested in being behind the stage rather than on it, the Tech Group 'View Crew' gives boys in Years 7-12 an opportunity to learn different aspects of technical theatre production. A few skills learnt are stage-management, lighting design, programming and operation, audio operation, designing soundscapes and effects, working with digital media playback, stage crew and management including props and sets.
Theatresports is a team-based event where teams engage in 'games' where they create a scene out of a theme or idea, provided a few seconds prior to beginning.
Riverview has one of the strongest Theatresports programs in Sydney, with a focus on participating in the regional competition run by Improv Australia each year for Junior, Intermediate and Senior students.
