Each year, a College Captain and two Vice Captains—a Captain of Day Boys and a Captain of Boarding—are elected in Term 3. These student leaders embody the ideals of Riverview, guiding their peers with integrity, vision, and a commitment to the College community. Additionally, each of the 16 Houses appoints a House Captain and two House Vice Captains, providing leadership within their House and fostering a spirit of community and engagement.
Within the Boarding House, student leadership is cultivated through the Proctor system. Proctors - Boarding Prefects elected by their peers - serve as mentors to younger boarders, assist in organising social and community activities, and help maintain a respectful and orderly environment. Proctors hold office from Term 3 in Year 11 until the commencement of HSC Trial Examinations in Year 12. Up to 20 Proctors may be appointed each year.
Among the Proctors, a Beadle—an Ignatian term meaning “Assistant to the Teacher”—is elected to act as deputy to the Captain of Boarders and to coordinate the work of the Proctors. A Head Sacristan, also nominated by the Proctors, oversees the organisation of boarders’ liturgies, supporting the spiritual life of the House.
Through these leadership roles, Riverview students learn to exercise influence with humility, guide others with empathy, and contribute meaningfully to the life of the College community.
