Care of the Individual

At Riverview, teachers and administrators—both Jesuit and lay—are more than just academic guides. They are involved in the lives of students, taking a personal interest in their intellectual, affective, moral and spiritual development, helping each one develop a sense of self-worth and to become a responsible individual within the community.

“Jesuit education insists on individual care and concern for each person.”

The Characteristics of Jesuit Education

While they respect the privacy of students, they are ready to listen to their cares and concerns about the meaning of life, to share their joys and sorrows, and help them with personal growth and interpersonal relationships. In these and other ways, the adult members of the educational community guide students in the development of a set of values leading to life decisions that go beyond ‘self’, and include a concern for the needs of others. They try to live in a way that offers an example to the students, and they are willing to share their own life experiences.

In Years 5 and 6, the Homeroom teacher is the ‘significant’ adult in a boy’s life. Students in Years 7 to 12 are part of the House System and are pastorally cared for by their Head and Assistant Head of House.

Student wellbeing

The College’s Counselling team, comprised of qualified psychologists and social workers, works closely with the broader Riverview Pastoral Care team to support the wellbeing of students. They provide specialised assistance through individual counselling, psycho-educational assessments, case management, and referrals to external professionals and agencies. The team also offers guidance and resources to parents to help support their sons’ development and wellbeing.

The Counselling team can be contacted via the Student Office at +61 2 9882 8222 or studentoffice@riverview.nsw.edu.au.

Health Centre

The Health Centre provides a welcoming and professional environment where the wellbeing of students is the College’s priority. Our practice and procedures are reviewed annually to ensure the highest standards of care, supported by ongoing engagement with professional medical bodies to remain abreast of the latest developments in healthcare.

The Centre’s facilities include 17 beds, a bedside nurse call system, wheelchair access, portable bedside phones, physiotherapy equipment, plastering and suturing facilities, glucometers, venipuncture services, resuscitation equipment, and an ice machine.

The Health Centre is staffed by qualified medical professionals 24 hours a day, ensuring attentive care for all in-patients and providing support for the broader College community as needed.

Doctors

Doctors attend a clinic at the Health Centre each weekday during lunchtime, maintaining close communication with the nursing staff to ensure coordinated care. When required, and at the discretion of the registered nurse on duty, doctors are available to offer medical attention at the Health Centre 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy clinics are held twice weekly, offering students access to professional treatment at a discounted fee. During winter sport, pre-match taping is available every Saturday at no cost, providing additional support to help students perform safely and confidently.

Podiatry

Podiatry clinics are held fortnightly.

Dental

The College has connections with dental practices in Lane Cove and orthodontic practices in Lane Cove and Chatswood for any necessary services.
