Mr Mark Tannock

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview, a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition in Sydney, New South Wales.

Saint Ignatius' College Riverview is a Catholic boarding and day school in the Jesuit tradition for young men in Years 5 to 12. Situated on the North Shore of Sydney, the College has delivered quality education to both local and boarding students since 1880.

The Society of Jesus was founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola and canonically approved as an order by Pope Paul III in 1540. The first Jesuit school was opened in Messina, Sicily, in 1548, which was followed by a rapid growth of schools throughout Europe and then across the world. Now established in over 80 countries.

An Irish Jesuit, Fr Joseph Dalton SJ, founded Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview in 1880 and gave birth to a school that lives in the folk memory of our nation and our Church. Inheriting the Jesuit tradition, contemporary Ignatian educators continue the mission of an education in the faith. We offer a style of education that transforms the lives of young people through a holistic program that encourages excellence in all endeavours.

Cura personalis is a Jesuit term meaning ‘care for the whole person’ and seeks to offer care and support to each student who has been created in the image and likeness of God. The ideal for Ignatian graduates is that they become men of ‘competence, conscience, compassion and commitment’ who take their gifts and serve a world in desperate need of them. Fundamental to this aspect of our mission is our commitment to the care, wellbeing, and safeguarding of every young person entrusted to us, ensuring each student is known, valued and safe within our community. I welcome your interest in our Catholic, Jesuit school for boys.
