A unique opportunity

Boarding at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview offers a unique opportunity for boys to live, learn and grow within a supportive and close-knit community.

Set on expansive grounds along the Lane Cove River, the boarding program brings together students from across New South Wales, Australia and overseas. This diverse mix of backgrounds and experiences enriches daily life and helps boys form friendships that often last well beyond their school years.

At Riverview, boarding is far more than accommodation. It is a fully integrated experience that supports each student’s academic, social, emotional and spiritual development. Boys are encouraged to build independence while staying closely connected to caring staff who guide them through the rhythms of school life. The College aims to create an environment where each boarder feels known, valued and supported.

Community sits at the heart of the boarding program. From the moment a student arrives, he is welcomed into a boardinghouse environment that provides stability and a sense of belonging. Younger boys begin in Charles Fraser House where routines, friendships and support networks are established. As students progress, they move into St John’s House for Years 9 and 10, and later into Kevin Fagan House for Years 11 and 12, where greater independence and leadership opportunities are offered. Each boarding house is designed to meet the developmental needs of its age group while still maintaining the shared spirit of the Riverview boarding community.

A balance of study, recreation and rest

Daily routines

Daily routines are structured to help students balance study, recreation and rest. Boarders follow schedules that include supervised homework times, organised activities, access to sports facilities and opportunities for social interaction. These routines build positive habits and ensure that boys are supported academically while also having time to relax and recharge.

Weekends

Weekends are an important part of the boarding experience. Boys take part in activities such as a regular Boarders Mass, recreational outings, water sports, organised games and supervised trips. These activities foster camaraderie, build confidence and give students a healthy balance between structure and freedom. Whether it is a casual walk to the Lane Cove shopping precinct, a session at the boat house or a friendly sporting competition, weekends provide time for connection and fun.

Exceptional range of facilities

Boarders at Riverview enjoy access to an exceptional range of facilities. The Gartlan Sports Centre offers indoor courts, a heated pool, weights, and conditioning spaces. Music and arts facilities cater to boys with creative interests, while the Faber Farm and agricultural precinct provide hands-on learning experiences. Health and well-being are supported through the 24-hour Health Centre, staffed by qualified nurses with access to specialist medical professionals when needed.

Pastoral care

A strong focus on pastoral care ensures that each boy feels safe, supported, and understood. Boarding staff work closely with academic mentors, families, and specialist teams to monitor student wellbeing and provide guidance where needed. This holistic approach reflects the Jesuit principle of cura personalis — care for the whole person — and is central to the culture of boarding at Riverview.

Living with others, living for others

Coming to Riverview has definitely made me expand my horizons and give everything a go, take those opportunities. I could definitely say I feel supported at Riverview, we all have each other's backs. They're not just class mates, they're brothers.

— Charlie B

Ultimately, boarding at Riverview prepares young men for life. Through shared experiences, structured routines, purposeful learning and strong relationships, boys develop resilience, independence and a sense of responsibility. They learn to lead, to serve and to contribute positively to those around them. Boarding becomes, for many, a second home and a place where they discover who they are and who they aspire to be.
