Daily Boarding Life

Life as a boarder at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview follows a steady rhythm that helps boys feel grounded, supported and ready for the day ahead.

Mornings

The morning begins early, with boys rising to make their beds and prepare for the day. Houses wake in a calm, orderly way that helps students settle into their routine. Once dressed and organised, boarders gather in the Refectory for breakfast. This shared meal is a simple but important moment of connection. Boys check in with friends, discuss the day ahead, and prepare for class.

Classes

After breakfast, boarders move to the academic side of the College. Classes begin, and the day shifts into its learning rhythm. Boarders benefit from strong study habits, access to teachers and ongoing academic support. They know that after school, there will be time set aside for review, homework and independent study, so their focus during class is steady and purposeful.

Afternoon

When lessons finish in the afternoon, the boys return home and change into casual clothes. This marks a shift in tone. After a structured school day, boarders enjoy time to unwind, play outside, visit the Gartlan Sports Centre or take part in co-curricular activities. The campus offers wide-open spaces, sports facilities, and recreation areas where boys can enjoy time with friends and burn off energy.

Evenings

Evenings bring a return to structure with supervised study sessions, complemented by opportunities, including trips to the Gartlan Sports Centre for Years 7–10, to break up study time and reset. Each house provides spaces where boys can concentrate and stay organised. Tutors and staff are on hand to provide support, answer questions, and help students manage their workload. These study periods build habits that serve boarders well throughout their schooling.

Dinner

Dinner follows, bringing the community together again. Meals offer a familiar routine where boys and staff sit together, share conversation, and enjoy a sense of belonging. Afterwards, students return to their houses for relaxation. Some read or listen to music, others chat quietly or prepare for the next day.

Lights-out

As the evening winds down, the boys ready themselves for bed. Lights-out times ensure that students get the rest they need, especially younger boarders who are still settling into school routines. The atmosphere is calm and reflective, giving each boy space to recharge.
