Context
The Strategic Directions 2020–2025 are now complete, and the College is developing the 2026–2030 Strategic Directions to guide the next phase of Riverview’s mission. The Strategic Directions 2020–2025 were built upon the foundations laid in the preceding plan (2015–2020) and on the defining documents of the Society of Jesus that shape our shared mission and future.
The 2015–2020 Strategic Directions identified key priorities emerging from extensive consultation, research, and discernment across our community: the promotion of Ignatian spirituality, excellence in teaching and learning, pastoral care grounded in cura personalis, a strong sense of community, and stewardship of resources and the environment. The 2020–2025 Strategic Directions strengthened and deepened our commitment to these priorities, providing clarity and focus for the past five years of planning and practice.
With the 2020–2025 cycle concluded, the College is now preparing a new set of Strategic Directions for 2026–2030. While this work progresses, we continue to draw on the guiding principles that have shaped our journey to date. These priorities remain grounded in the international network of Jesuit schools and guided by the Society of Jesus. Recent documents shaping the global direction of Jesuit education include:
-
The Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAP) of the Society of Jesus 2019–2029
-
Jesuit Schools: A Living Tradition in the 21st Century
-
The Apostolic Plan for the Australian Province 2019–2024: A Call to Mission in Hope
Grounded in the spirit of the Universal Apostolic Preferences, the Charter of Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview continues to “accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future” (UAP, 2019–2029), a purpose that will guide the development of our next Strategic Directions.
Mission
As a Catholic boarding school in the Jesuit tradition, the educational program at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview remains committed to the magis. This deep search for spiritual, academic, social, physical and experiential growth enables young men to reach their full potential, immersed in an environment of aspiration and support.
The Jesuit educational program at the College is distinguished by:
-
A commitment to faith and Gospel values through the formation of staff and students, with a special regard for service;
-
Quality teaching and learning through programs that promote the intellectual, physical, cultural and artistic development of students;
-
Holistic pastoral care that supports young men in their growth and development;
-
An inclusive community that identifies with the global network of Jesuit schools, where every contribution is valued; and
- Resources and facilities that enable best education practice; and “a compelling regard for environmental stewardship” (Laudato Si 2015).
A Vision for the Future
Strategic Directions 2020–2025 strengthened the College’s commitment to build upon the positive foundations laid by Strategic Directions 2015–2020, sharpening our vision for the future and guiding the College over the past five years.
Our continuing ambition is to form young men who live the Jesuit ethos of being “men for others” – young people who understand their place in the world and embrace the challenge to shape it for the better. The five tenets articulated in the 2020–2025 plan continue to inform our ongoing work:
-
Encouraging an authentic personal faith in the Ignatian tradition
-
Delivering excellence in teaching and learning
-
Providing genuine care for the individual (cura personalis)
-
Fostering our strong sense of community
-
Wisely stewarding our resources and God-given environment
With the conclusion of the 2020–2025 cycle, the College is now developing a new set of Strategic Directions to guide the next phase of Riverview’s mission. This work will build on the significant progress achieved and will respond to contemporary opportunities and challenges facing Jesuit education locally and globally.
The 2020–2025 Strategic Directions were implemented through action plans developed by the College Executive, with annual reporting to the College Board. The next iteration will continue to be cognisant of and responsive to priorities and initiatives of the Society of Jesus in Australia and the Jesuit Assistancy of Asia-Pacific, ensuring that our path forward remains grounded in our Ignatian identity and purpose.
