Governance of the College is delegated to the College Council by the Provincial and Trustees of the Society of Jesus in Australia.
The Council is an incorporated body and conducts its affairs pursuant to the Constitution of Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview, Lane Cove, New South Wales. Councillors are appointed by the Provincial and its members comprise no fewer than four Jesuits, including exofficio the Provincial Assistant for Education and the Superior of the Jesuit community. The above model is similar to what has been implemented in all Jesuit schools in Australia. The inaugural Riverview Council was held in 1993. College Council governs in accordance with the philosophy and goals of Jesuit education. Its task, in collaboration with the Rector, is to formulate policy which ensures the College's educational and financial well being. Mr Paul Robertson AM (Chair) 2001- Director, St Vincent's Health Australia; Chair Social Ventures Australia; Chair, St Vincent's & Mater Health Sydney and Director, Money Market and Debt Exchange. Mr John Wilcox (OR 75) (Deputy Chair) 2006 – An Old Boy of the College, Managing Director, Hill Rogers Chartered Accountants, Director, St. Vincent’s Clinic, Chair, Sisters of Charity Outreach Committee, Chair, Society of the Sacred Heart Advisory Committee, Australian and New Zealand Province Fr Chris Gleeson SJ 2011 - The Provincial’s Delegate for Education. Fr Gleeson served as Head of both Xavier College in Melbourne and Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview, in Sydney for 21 years. He has Chaired the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia; served as Director of Jesuit Publications (now Jesuit Communications) as well as the inaugural Director of both the Faber Centre of Ignatian Spirituality and the Archdiocesan Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre. Ms Gabrielle Trainor 2003 – Director, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Director, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Commissioner, Australian Football League (NSW/ACT) Fr Michael Ryan SJ 2008 - Fr Ryan has taught in a number of Jesuit Schools and has been Headmaster of Saint Ignatius' College, Adelaide and Rector of Xavier College, Melbourne, Victoria. Mr Michael Payten(OR75) 2006 – From Canowindra Michael is an Old Boy and Past Parent of the College, Board member, Lyndon Community Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Service, Chair, Lyndon Community Finance Sub-committee, Chair, Belubula Landholder’s Association Fr Jack McLain SJ 2009 - The Headmaster of St Ignatius’ College, Athelstone in South Australia, with experience across several of the Society of Jesus’ ministries, both here and abroad. Mr Michael Traill AM 2010 - Current parent and Chief Executive of Social Ventures Australia, Vice Chair of GoodStart Childcare Ltd, Director of the Opera Australia Capital Fund, Documentaries Australia Foundation and the advisory board of MLC Private Equity. Prof Anne Cummins 2010 - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Learning & Teaching), Australian Catholic University.
Ms Anne McDonald 2011 - Non-executive director. Anne was a partner of Ernst & Young for 15 years until 2005, when she resigned from the partnership to pursue a full time career as a non-executive director. Her core skills and expertise are in business, financial & accounting matters, and risk management.
Fr Thomas Renshaw SJ (OR90) 2012 - Rector of Xavier College since 2010. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1999 and was ordained a priest in 2008. Before joining the Society of Jesus, Tom worked as a solicitor specialising in Commercial Litigation and Employment law. Mr Tim Morse (OR83) 2012 -Tim is an Old Boy and current parent. He is a Partner at McKinsey & Co and a non-practicing solicitor.
