Homework Policies

A major goal for boys in the Middle Years is the development of sound organisation and home study skills. Students are expected to commit themselves to a regular block of study time even if little or no set work has been given by teachers. The formation of regular study times, free of distractions such as television, video and computer games and telephone is a vital foundation for future studies. Students are encouraged to commence assignments well before the due date so that a quality product is possible. Revision of class notes and work, reading of novels and vocabulary revision are all activities which can be done if little set work is scheduled. Establishing a study routine for the whole household often removes distractions and encourages a sound study environment.

The expected hours of home study are as follows:

  • Years 5 to 7: 1 to 1¼ hours
  • Years 8 to 9: 1 to 1½ hours
