Frank Bown BursaryFrank (known as "Buzz") was a student at the College (1915-1919) and died in New Zealand in January, 1992. During the 1920's, 40's and 50's he wrote several articles of historical interest in Our Alma Mater. This gift of a Bursary was given to the College from his estate in November, 1995.
The Ann Clark BursaryInitiated by the College Council, and funded annually by the College, this bursary honours one of the founding members of the Riverview College Council, who died in 1997. Ann was a frontline leader in Catholic Education and was highly respected for her leadership and innovative programs. She was CEO of the Parramatta Diocese and founded Loyola College at Mt Druitt.
R P Dickinson BursaryRon and Val Dickinson had two sons at Riverview: James (1980-1985) and Anthony (1983-1988). Ron's company did the majority of the College's printing from 1980-1990. Ron died in 1993, and Val has gifted a Bursary in his name.
The Docker BursaryDanny Docker was a boarder from Molong at the College from 1966-1971. He has been a strong supporter of the Old Ignatians' Union, and through this Bursary wishes to express his gratitude for the inspiration the College has been to him in his post-school years. The James Barnham BursaryTina and Christopher O'Sullivan, parents of Carl and Luke (both OR2003), initiated a Bursary in the name of Christopher's grandfather, James Barnham. James migrated to Australia from England in the early 1900's but returned to Europe to fight as a Digger in WWI. He spent the war as a private and then a corporal with one of the machine gun battalions, and was wounded several times. He was repatriated in 1919 and lived in Melbourne where he married and worked as a silversmith. Injuries to his lungs from gassing robbed him of a long life and he died in the early 1920's.
The John and Pat Downey BursaryJohn and Pat initiated this Bursary in gratitude to the College for the inspiration it has been in their lives. John was a student at Riverview (1930-1936) and has been a strong supporter of the Old Ignatians' Union ever since leaving school.
The Higgins BursaryDavid Higgins was a student at the College from 1967-1972. He and his two brothers were boarders who travelled from Leslie, Queensland. Following an excellent academic career at the College, David achieved success in varied leadership positions in business. He remembers with affection the College and through this Bursary wishes to thank the many teachers who inspired him.
Peter Johnson ("PJ") Education TrustThe Peter johnson ("PJ") Education Trust was set up by a great friend of the College whose link to the school has been through the members of the boarding community. Peter grew up in the country and is well aware how the extremes of weather can impact on a family's financial situation. He wishes to make educational funds available to those in need.
The William Stace Lloyd BursaryWilliam Lloyd was a friend of the College, funded this Bursary so that country boarders could be given the opportunity to experience an education at Riverview. He believes that a Riverview education is well-rounded and exceptional.
The Kim Maloney BursaryKim Maloney was a student at the College between 1968-1973. He was a member of the 1st XV and 1st VIII in his final year and is grateful for the values instilled in him by his Jesuit education. He remembers with affection many of his teachers both in the classroom and on the sporting fields.
Martin Tooth Bursary
The McDermott BursaryThis Bursary is named in honour of Dr Charles and Frances McDermott. Charles attended Riverview between 1918-1922. He himself was on a Bursary, and was named Dux of the College in his final year. Charles visited the College in 1992 just prior to his death. Frances, on her death bed, gifted a Bursary to Riverview to recognise "Charles' desire to give back to the school that had given him so much" and Frances wanted to ensure that happened through her generosity to Riverview.
Michael and Annie O'Brien BursaryMichael and Annie O'Brien were keen supporters of Riverview's bursary work. Michael (OR60) came as a boarder to Riverview from Come-By-Chance and understands first-hand how the vagaries of weather and other difficult circumstances can place financial strain on a family as they educate their children.
The Oxenham BursaryThe Oxenham family has endowed this Bursary to the College "to record Dr B.B. Oxenham's high regard for the work of the Jesuits and his affection for Riverview". Brian Bede Oxenham was a student at the College between 1928-1935. He was a member of the first Riverview team to win the GPS debating premiership in1935, as well as the first Riverview athlete to win a GPS open event, the half mile, in 1934 and again in 1935. Brian studied medicine at Sydney University. He played Rugby for NSW and made the four-week trip from Australia to Britain with the second Wallaby Tour only to arrive on the day that WW II was declared. The tour was subsequently cancelled.
Brian had enormous energy and great self-discipline. The Oxenham family asks that the recipient be a boy with "developed attributes of leadership and good character, who exhibits physical vigour". The Quigley BursaryThe Stack Family BursaryMaurie (OR65), Ray (OR60) and Tim (OR68), all boarded at Riverview from Wingham. The family has made a profound mark in the legal community of NSW, especially in rural cities. They have endowed this bursary as a way of thanking Riverview for its inspiration to so many of the Stack family. |
